…And with fall comes the excitement of fall tours. Just when we thought the summer was a busy time, we realize it’s time to get down to business and go see some music. Aside from the travesty of MSTRKRFT stopping just short of Saint Louis, I’m trying to keep up with these:

Vampire Weekend

Wednesday, September 7 at the Pageant

You usually hear bands speed up on songs, if anything. But there were at least a few songs here where it seemed obvious Vampire Weekend was actually slowing down to accommodate one or more band member’s ability to keep up with the song live. (My piano teacher echoes in my mind: “do it again. Do it again. Do it faster.”) They did play some songs not on their full-length album, which were a nice change from the studio sound of their album performances. I, like many, could not get enough of their self-titled album, so it was fun to watch even if there wasn’t much variety or stretching of the songs. Between the singer continuously bouncing on his tiptoes, and the bass player having some crazy stretch armstrong dance moves, they were entertaining.

DJ Dan

Saturday, September 20 at Dante’s

I was thoroughly excited when I found out DJ Dan was coming into town, especially after his somewhat quiet show over Memorial Day Weekend earlier this year way the F out at Home Nightclub. I interviewed Dan for my radio show, you can listen here:

Click To Play

Not only did he tear the place up with huge beats and some pretty sly mash-ups, he played a killer remix of Shiny Toy Guns‘ “Don’t Cry Out.” There aren’t really any proper remixes of STG released, but I’ve been waiting to hear one in a club regardless. This made my night, aside from being to hang out with Dan for a bit.

Also, a fun music video podcast concept: have some sort of credibility that allows you to film bands performing in random settings. Think the Wombats on a boat, Vampire Weekend in a van, Pigeon John at a bus stop…you get the idea. It’s called the Take Away Shows, of course.

Until there’s more present inside this future-

Hark, the herald angels sing! I have a blog. Let’s plan to use this for musical things. This site is partially to support my radio show, Beep Beep Boop Boop on KDHX, and also to engage in other conversations about music.

I feel as though I should give a little background – CHECK IT!

It all began in a banana-yellow Lincoln Town Car with 8-track tapes: the BeeGees, Hall & Oates, Wham!, and Barry Manilow are most prominent in my mind. It was a revelation when I found out Hall & Oates’ “Every Time You Go Away” gave a piece of me – instead of meat – with you.

It’s all uphill from there. There will always be more music than spare time, and I could go crazy trying to be hip on the newest band or divulge into sub-sub-sub genres of house music…when really, as long as I have the ability to listen, I will just enjoy being a music listener.

With that said, here is a place to communicate about music, and the occasional event or bad driver.
