A show for Olympians, couch-sitters, and random goal-achievers alike
The opening ceremonies of the Olympics inspired me a bit more than usual. I found out that Danny Boyle was the producer, and had appointed the boys from Underworld as music directors. I’ve always enjoyed Boyle’s films more because of his keen sense for placing music at just the right spot; choosing just the right music for the mood or instance being conveyed on film.
The Beach and Trainspotting perked my interest in artists I had never heard of, but were likely more well-known in the UK. So it was very fitting that a large section of the opening ceremonies was devoted to a history of British music. And also that Dizzee Rascal got more face time than Paul McCartney.
So for tonight, I’ve chosen some songs I think Olympic-worthy. This doesn’t just mean “bangers” - it means songs that inspire activity, kick-assedness, or just might help to focus on a project. Songs Olympians might listen to.
It could be fun to listen while watching Olympic coverage tonight. Who needs the announcers, really? ;) Tune in tonight and do whatever you like to do - and enjoy.
